Frequently asked questions

Short, plain answers to what South African business owners ask us most.

What does monthly bookkeeping and management accounts include?

TBL Accounting's monthly bookkeeping covers bank and supplier reconciliations, invoicing and debtor tracking, and expense and petty-cash management. It is followed by monthly management accounts: a profit and loss statement, a balance sheet and a budget-versus-actual comparison in plain language. The books are kept in cloud accounting software such as Xero or Sage.

What is the difference between bookkeeping and management accounts?

Bookkeeping records and reconciles every transaction so the books are accurate. Management accounts turn those records into a monthly profit and loss statement, balance sheet and budget comparison that an owner can use to make decisions. Good management accounts depend on up-to-date bookkeeping, so TBL Accounting provides both together.

Do you keep books in Xero and Sage?

Yes. TBL Accounting keeps books in Xero and Sage and can migrate a business from spreadsheets or an older system. See our cloud accounting service for set-up and support.

How much does bookkeeping cost for a small business in South Africa?

The fee depends on the number of transactions, the number of entities and how much reporting you need. Book a call, tell us where your books stand, and a named, qualified accountant will scope the work with you.

When should a small business move from bookkeeping to a virtual FD?

Move up when clean books are no longer enough and you need cash-flow forecasts, KPI tracking and board-ready reporting. A Virtual FD is one step up from bookkeeping and builds on the same monthly numbers.
