Short, plain answers to what South African business owners ask us most.
What is King V, and has it replaced King IV?
King V is South Africa's latest King Code on corporate governance. It was released on 31 October 2025, replaces King IV in its entirety, and applies to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2026. It is a principle-based, voluntary framework.
Does King V apply to a private company or a family business?
King V is voluntary and principle-based, so a private company or family business can apply it in proportion to its size. You do not need a JSE-listed governance structure, just the right-sized version. TBL Accounting designs governance frameworks scaled to your business.
What does a governance review involve?
A King V alignment review, governance-framework design scaled to size, a board charter and terms of reference, board-pack design, disciplined minutes and resolutions, conflict-of-interest policies, delegation-of-authority frameworks and an annual review.
Can you help a non-profit or an organisation answering to funders?
Yes. We cover NPO and family-business governance, governance reporting for funders and director induction support. See our NPO accounting page.

Talk to a real accountant, not a call centre.
Tell us who's asking about governance and a named, qualified accountant will scope what's actually needed — no queue, no junior.
- 1You tell us where things stand.
- 2A named accountant tells you what they would look at first.
- 3You decide what happens next.
